Summary of Position

The Education Department in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of New Hampshire invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Postsecondary Educational Leadership to begin mid-August, 2025.

We seek candidates whose research contributes to advancing knowledge in postsecondary (writ large) education and educational leadership. We welcome applications from candidates with specific expertise in any, or ideally more than one, of the following areas: higher education, community college, postsecondary trajectories connected to career and technical education, apprenticeships and work-based learning, and career and workforce policy. Subdomain focus areas include, among others, youth and young adult development, strengths-based connections to community informal learning, inclusion and accessibility, curriculum, and student services. Candidates’ research agenda should show evidence of or high potential for external funding. Methodologically, we seek candidates whose research is community engaged, with expertise in qualitative and action/participatory research approaches specifically and experience with combining qualitative and quantitative methods and insights. We are especially interested in candidates whose expertise is either based in or applicable to prominent community, cultural, economic, and educational issues in New Hampshire and New England.

In teaching and advising, competitive candidates will have demonstrated expertise and leadership experience in online graduate education at the college/university level. We seek candidates who have taught or demonstrate readiness to teach in the aforementioned methodological specialization areas as well as in content specialization areas such as: educational evaluation; educational leadership and policy; education finance and business administration; human resources; school law; recruitment, retention, and postsecondary academic success across diverse social groups; and collective bargaining. Especially competitive candidates will excel in teaching across disciplines. Candidates should demonstrate readiness to contribute substantial advising at the doctoral level at the start date of the position.

Responsibilities for this position include: teaching online and in-person graduate courses; graduate and in particular doctoral student research supervision and advising; conducting research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; presenting at professional academic conferences and engagement with public outreach; pursuing external funding to support research, teaching, and service efforts; serving on Department, College, and University committees; and engaging in professional and public service. Administrative leadership in a forthcoming Ed.D. degree program is a core expectation.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

The position requires: (1) A doctorate in education or a related field, defended by the position start date; (2) Experience teaching both online and in-person graduate courses in areas outlined above; (3) Evidence of scholarly activity, research, and publications in peer-reviewed journals; (4) Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and a strengths-based research agenda that addresses the ways that educational outcomes relate to social, cultural, and community ecological processes and patterns.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have research and teaching experience with leading edge qualitative, participatory, and community engaged methodologies as well as experience and expertise teaching across both qualitative and quantitative traditions.
