If so, the Health and Human-Machine Systems Group is looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.
As a Senior Health Systems Engineer, you will work with a multi-disciplinary, high-performing team of systems engineers, biomedical engineers, data scientists, and human factors and public health experts. You will serve as a technical leader while guiding this team in the application of systems engineering and healthcare delivery science principles to facilitate requirements elicitation, concept development, systems analysis, and technology design for projects related to global health, special operations and cyber security missions.
- You will interface with operational stakeholders to understand and document their needs, and translate them into well-defined requirements to facilitate system design and development, analysis, modeling and simulation (M&S), and test and evaluation (T&E).
- You will collaborate with other engineers and diverse technical experts to investigate, evaluate, analyze, and prototype technologies and operational solutions.
- You will support the development, documentation, review, and presentation of systems engineering artifacts to diverse audiences, including senior leaders, in accordance with APL's high-quality standards.
- You will support design and peer reviews to inform and gather feedback on system requirements, system design, analytical approaches, technology and systems integration, and/or testing methodologies. This may lead to revising work products.
- You will build and cultivate partnerships with Project and Program Managers across AOS, APL, and the sponsor community to develop a deep understanding of current and emerging threats, document sponsor challenges and help develop operational risk assessments in healthcare and human-machine interactions.
- You will apply knowledge of healthcare challenges and emerging needs to develop recommendations and proposals for future work and innovation opportunities.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a Master’s in engineering, computer science, or a relevant technical, scientific, or health-related field with ten or more years of relevant experience.
- Have a track record of accomplishments related to systems engineering or health systems engineering, including leading teams in the development of technical and/or analytical solutions.
- Have demonstrated success in mentoring and developing staff and cultivating collaborative relationships within and across organizational boundaries.
- Have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organization and planning skills with demonstrated success in working in a team environment.
- Can travel occasionally to attend meetings with our government sponsors and operational stakeholders.
- Hold an active Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship..

- Possess a PhD in engineering, computer science, or a relevant technical, scientific, or health-related field.
- Are experienced in leading systems engineering projects with demonstrated success in written and verbal commutation including briefing high-level sponsors and executive leadership.
- Have previous experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams including working with APL engineers.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. $90,000 Annually
Maximum Rate
$350,000 Annually
