Job Description

Under general supervision, performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing; evaluates test results; performs and evaluates quality control procedures; performs preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting. Provides laboratory services in a timely manner and consistently delivers excellent customer service. Serves as a technical resource for customers, other staff. Adheres to all safety policies. May perform other related duties as assigned.
- Trains nursing staff on waived and moderate complexity test procedures and provider staff on provider-performed microscopy procedures.
- Reviews quality control and patient test results.
- Performs routine site visits; oversees preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Provides POCT laboratory support and consultation services in a timely manner and consistently delivers excellent customer service to various outpatient areas.
- Performs staff training and competency evaluations.
- Creates reports for submission to CLIA Lab Directors and clinic managers.
Must have current Clinical Laboratory Scientist or appropriate subspecialty license issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
General Clinical Laboratory Scientist (GCLS).
Must have at least two (2) years of applicable clinical laboratory experience.
Familiarity with CLIA, CAP and State requirements for POCT.
Strong problem solving skills to assist clinic staff to resolve issues, remotely or on site.
Demonstrated effective communication skills with management as well as clinic staff.
Strong interpersonal skills; Must be able to critically evaluate the POCT program and provide feedback to clinics while maintaining a customer focused approach.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills. Must have the ability to multitask.
Teamwork, excellent communication, customer service and process improvement skills are all applicable to this position.
Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
- Two years' experience in chemistry and 2 years' experience in hematology.
- Working knowledge of Telcor QML database/middleware management, Epic EMR.
- Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe software.
- Communication and public speaking skills to lead training presentations for small groups.
- Analytical skills to troubleshoot; waived and moderate complexity testing equipment, network connectivity/interface issues, POCT device configurations.
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma, process improvement and change management.
- Experience with evaluating competency of testing personnel on laboratory procedures.
- Experience with performing proficiency tests, documenting and submitting CAP (or equivalent) proficiency testing forms.
- Experience with Point of Care Testing, CLIA facility certificate renewals.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a resource, effectively lead and mentor teams.
- Confidence in providing direction and recommendations toward improvement to POCT Labs.
- Takes initiative when additional projects and assignments are available and participates in development of creative solutions.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $114,130 - $150,336 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $54.66 - $72.00
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
